Review # 2 was written on 2020-06-25 00:00:00 Shellina Rush I really enjoy historical fiction and the backdrop of this novel is quite well done. The scenes of war were well written and gritty and really brought you in to the setting well. I wasn't really crazy about how the love scenes were written, but they told the story, so that is just personal preference for me. I enjoyed the characters and became invested in seeing the stories unfold. I felt like the ending was a little too pat and rushed, and more than once I stopped and thought 'wait, what? Who went where?' and had to backtrack and re-read a bit to figure out where the story had jumped to, so I feel like the transitions towards the end sort of fell apart a little and there were some fleshing out that was missing. However, it was an enjoyable and relatively quick read.
