Although this is a very short (64 pages) little book, it does a reasonably good job of summarizing the woman suffrage movement from the convention at Seneca Falls in 1848 all the way to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Obviously, it doesn't go into great detail about any particular aspect. Really it's something of a "sampler platter." It includes excerpts from books, texts of newspaper articles, diary excerpts, photos, and even a piece of music. My personal favorite little gem is a letter written by "A Woman" to the editor of the New York Times in 1873 who most adamantly does NOT want the right to vote, preferring rather to use influence "in our homes, a woman's proper sphere..." I believe I am reasonably well-versed on this particular topic, but there were things in here that I did not know about previously. My lectures on this topic will definitely benefit from having read this book!

There are other books that are collections of primary documents that are better than this.
