I read this book out loud to my mom and had to stop after practically every sentence to insert my own sarcastic comment. The fairy tales were all oversimplified to the point where they didn't make much sense if you thought about them at all. Also, they were not like Grimm's or Andersen's versions or Disney's and I barely even recognized some of the stories. I would not even read these versions to kids because they are so simplified they barely communicate the lessons they are supposed to. The illustrations were alright, and they were the best part of the book in my opinion. Definitely not one of my favorite storybook collections, I would not recommend anyone read this, no matter your age.

I have had this book of fairy tales since I was very young, and it was always one of my very favorites for bedtime stories. There are beautiful pictures on every other page, and the text is good and easy to understand. This book would be wonderful for any little girl (not scary or anything, though the Velveteen Rabbit made me sad). At fifteen, I still fondly keep this book in my room and sometimes read the stories over again. My favorite was always the Twelve Dancing Princesses (mostly, I think, becuase it involved twelve pretty ball gowns =). Great book and very magical for me!
