There are many things that I appreciate about this book and the author's point of view. I think it's always appropriate to pray for healing and ask God for miracles. I believe many are healed in this way and I think the church could see more healing if it weren't so lacking in the proper faith and trust that God asks us to have. I also believe that medical science is a gift from God (which Urquhart does not acknowledge or deny). Still, I can't go along with the author's belief that God will heal everyone if only the church has enough faith and avoids all the failure traps that he discusses. Those things are important, but I think there are many cases where God decides not to heal for reasons that are a mystery to us. Even when the church and the people involved follow all the guidelines and avoid the pit falls, many are not healed. God only knows why many suffer this way. Read the book of Job. It keeps you from taking Proverbs to be promises. To start from the premise that God wants everyone to be healed means that with those who are not, and who have done all they know before God to ask for healing, there must be some unknown and unrevealed fault that prevented healing. This makes God out to be overly scrupulous of those he wants to heal. If God's desire to heal is a given in all cases and it all depends on the church, then God as put himself in the position of being entirely subject to the will and understanding of his people; as if our world, and the extent to which we perceive it, is all that matters where our desire to be healed is concerned. All eternity holds its breath for us. This wasn't God's answer to Job. Jesus has little patience for people who followed him only for the sake of his miracles, a temptation that only gets stronger the more successful the church gets at producing them. There is more to life than health. Suffering can also play a part in our spiritual development and growth. It's not always something to get out of the way as quickly as possible, as Urquhart implies. God takes responsibility for our suffering, wants us to participate in caring and praying for those who suffer, even participates in it himself, and ultimately promises to redeem it all. There can be no real "handbook" on healing, I think, but there is some good encouragement in this book none the less. Urquhart is not a self glorifying "faith healer". He has an honest and sincere desire to see people healed to the glory of God.

This is my absolute favorite Christian companion book! It is tremendously helpful on what God says about all topics we face during our time here on Earth including government, greed, character, stress, worry, loneliness, etc. Anything you need guidance on, this book has it! If you are a new Christian or even a Christian who wants a book with quick access to Gods word on specific topics, this book is for you!
