The last book ended with Corwin achieving practically everything he wanted. Unfortunately he inherited a big mess of affairs as well as assurances of several different parties that Amber would be destroyed. This book finds him trying to understand was was going on since the time he regained his memory - it turns out his fatal auto accident holds clues to present situation. It does not help that the royal siblings are found of sticking knives into each other's backs at a drop of a hat. I would call this their favorite pastime. Anyway, some answers emerge, but nobody can guarantee they are true. Even more questions appear. In fact the book ends in one big question: what did those people find? If the description seems vague I really could not do better with the third book of the series without big spoilers. Every time I read the series (I lost could of the number of rereads) I cannot help but wonder at Zelazny's imagination. This combined with great writing and the ability to cram lots of ideas into measly 140 pages makes the series unmatched classic. Can anybody name a great modern fantasy book which take less than 500 pages? I cannot. This time we get the do even more Shadow traveling, Trump teleportation, visit mysterious and dreamlike Tir-na Nóg'th, get a glimpse of the real Pattern, and witness royal kids trying their best to reduce their own number. What is not to love? In case somebody still had not figured it out I am a big fan of the series and this book - just like almost any other - gets 5 undisputed stars. Fantasy classic, and do not let anybody else tell you otherwise.

My rating 4.5 The Sign of the Unicorn (The Chronicles of Amber # 3) is solid but is slightly slower than the previous two books in the series. But this is a solid book where the stories about Amber's Princes are increasingly complicated. Corwin sits on the throne but things are even a little bit not to simplify, deception and intrigue continues. Corwin is very well aware that he can not trust almost any of his brothers and sisters. But the murder of his brother Cain is even more complicated. Corwin someone tried to accommodate this murder but although he killed the murderer of his brother he knew they would blame him for the murder because he did not agree with Cain. The murderer is not usually being because he already fought with his kind, and what is worst of all, they know how to move through the shadows. Web of lies soon begins to unravel, but the more Corwin knows it all becomes more complicated. The dark side is obviously in conjunction with some of his brothers and sisters. He must at all costs to find out who is behind all conspiracy because real world of Amber is in danger. But finding the traitor will be all just easy.
