Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-25 00:00:00 Peter Jones For the amateur cook, this book is a little bit too daunting. Fun to read, though, as far as what meals are popular around the world. Recommended recipes are: basic cheese fondue, Welsh cheese pudding, Norwegian blueberry omelette(use 5 eggs not 4), Danish cheese soup, and mushroom fricasse(nice to have once as a novelty). A wide assortment of countries are included. Even Uzbekistan! |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-09-22 00:00:00 Roy Tsukishima I confess I used it as a 'bathroom book' to dip into as and when as I am not getting much reading time at the moment and it was ideal. It is laid out alphabetically by the subject of proverbs, and beneath each subject is a proverb, its likely origin and earliest date and some examples, often from older books and certainly many books I have not read, but will no doubt try and dip into. I enjoyed it, but probably won't dip into it again. It gives useful information, and is well written and presented, but it isn't something I could easily revisit. |
