Review # 1 was written on 2019-02-27 00:00:00 Eric Forst 2.5 stars. The writing was good, but I had a couple issues with this Christian children's book: First, the main character (Honk) was quite conceited, which was never resolved or even addressed. Second, this story is supposed to be about accepting others as they are, but when Honk leaves his home and meets new animals, "They were either noisy, dirty, or... just too ugly to be around." What?! This is meant to teach kids acceptance? In the end, Honk goes home to his old friends, and never leaves again. Honk's attitude toward new animals wasn't addressed in the story, either- just in the parents' guide. In trying to raise my children to be humble, compassionate, and empathetic, I'd rather not introduce them to such a vain and snooty character who doesn't receive any consequences for such distasteful behavior.
