Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-01 00:00:00 Johnathon Wilhite If all poets write history like Nikki Giovanni, more poets should write history. This was beautiful. Well researched, smart, real, and told in the author's voice. She's not an objective narrator to history, she's a lover of music and language and she has a story to tell that no one else is telling. This would be appropriate to a wide age range, is short and accessible, and will make you look at history from slavery into the future differently...and more authentically. I will think of this book every time I sing. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-03-13 00:00:00 Andres Delagarza Interesting book all though I wish it had had more history and back stories. It is a book my niece bought for my mother. She, my niece, does not usually pick good books.😊 |
