I particularly liked the first half of this -- Kay raises some interesting questions about gender, including touching on the idea of identities outside the binary (which, you know, seems pretty progressive given that this was published in 1996 and most of society is still stuck on the binary model). She's got an entertainingly sarcastic tone in places, especially when criticising the casual misogyny of male critics. That said, I got a bit lost in the Freudian stuff, and the second half wasn't nearly as relevant to me in terms of personal interest AND in terms of what I'm writing an essay about.
