The Sunday Brunch Diaries by Norma L. Jarrett 282 pages Reading this book reinforced my thoughts that I need to go into book editing and offer my services to this author. The idea of the book is good enough - showing friends relying on each other and supporting their faith, praying for each other instead of preying on each other. But there were serious plot issues. The book is a sequel but there are way too many "main" characters to follow. 5 women, their husbands, an ex, a step-child, a wannabe-friend. And telling a first-person story from one woman's perspective but also showing the intimate moments in all the other characters' lives, is awkward. The book gets wrapped up without resolving some very significant things. I could go on and on. Bottom line, I give it 2 stars because in the end, I read it all the way through but I could think of several ways this book could have been better. More reviews at

Its always disappointing when a sequel sucks. The first book in the series 'Sunday Brunch' was slow enough, that this one should have picked up speed. It didn't. I stopped at "Brunch Unplugged" (Chapter 15). I couldn't take it. There were a few good quotes here and there, but overall...it was boring. I'm skeptical to give 'Sweet Magnolia' a try. Its part of the "Essence Book Club", so hopefully I'm not wasting my time. We shall see.
