Review # 1 was written on 2011-11-21 00:00:00 Betsy Dominguez [SPOILERS: for those who already read this piece the Historian believes that if the accusation was false then the most likely reason for the lie was for Marguerite to cover up an adultery or it was forced upon her to avenge what was done to her husband by her rival (Le Gris). However, as he goes over it in more detail Jager seems to be leaning that rape by Le Gris was real. (hide spoiler)]

Jager spared us nothing in stage setting the circumstances for the duel and for this reason Part I seemed important and exhausting in equal measure. It was interesting that the Scots did not appreciate French troops arrival to help against the English. Part II kicks of with a chapter called The Judgement of God and some of those there late mediaeval laws are hilarious to the modern-day eye: A horse that killed a man and then scaped with its master's help was convicted of murder in absentia and hanged in effigy. p. 132 The duel itself was written in an eye-scorching way, no two ways about that.
