There is so much to like about this book, but overall, I thought it fell flat. The concept is wonderful: A man is able to control his dreams and is a pawn in an organization, who want to exploit his talent for their own gain. The author made so many interesting points that made me stop and think. For example, the book's premise is founded on the idea that time in not linear and that we may be able to jump from one point in our lives to another and that we may even have completely separate lives we are leading at the same time, though our current mind (and consciousness) is not present in that body. I thought this idea was fascinating, and I loved reading about the main character's journey between these worlds because the premise was so interesting. However, the overall plot felt flat because it lacked true exposition. I had no idea what, exactly, the organization wanted of him, though it was alluded to many times and the general idea was spoken of. Furthermore, I did not feel any real connection with the main character because of his personality. I cared more about the ideas driving the plot forward (as previously mentioned) than I did about the man. To top it off, the end of the book felt both rushed and drawn out at the same time - rushed because it wrapped up things quickly and without fully explaining things to my liking, and drawn out because scenes were painfully long and I couldn't always understand what was happening or why. Overall, I am glad I read this book because of all the ideas it put forward, but I would not recommend it to someone looking for a novel with a fully developed plot and likeable characters.
