Review # 2 was written on 2017-03-05 00:00:00 Angeleen Kipfer Each chapter of this book explains, through the stories of its recipients, the various projects of Catholic Relief Services throughout the world. Most of it is written with a broad brush on the CRS program and then a detailed look at a few lives of those who have encountered their programs. This means that I still had many questions about how the programs worked exactly, but it did serve to make me aware of the many ways the Catholic Church has tried to improve the lives of those in most need. The chapters about CRS work in Mexico, through Self-Help Groups in India, and with Coffee Farmers in Nicaragua were particularly interesting. Solidarity in economic relief. Compassion and re-thinking how to empower people who have been rendered powerless for generations were the themes of this book. The copyright is 2007 - I'd love to read a more updated version, now that some of these programs are another 8 years along. How are the programs fairing today? |
