The book The Contender is about a boy name Alfred Brooks he is in high school . He work at a grocery store but is going now where . His best friend Joe is going deeper and deeper into a drug addiction . But some street kids want to beat him up so Alfred goes to Donatello's gym to box in Harlem to Tran him for the champions . He learns it is the effort he put in to make a man . I say yes read this book because if you are into boxing and hardcore lifes .

This reads like an expanded version of a senior thesis. Fairly informative, with some fun background about the novel industry back in America's heyday, but only blandly so.
