This is a cute story but I had trouble reading the made-up elephant words. I do tend to appreciate books that help build-up strong vocabulary rather than making words up. I don't like Dr. Seuss books for instance, so if you do, take my review in with a grain of salt.

I just couldn't get into it. Mr. Elephanter seems like a nanny or preschool teacher, and I couldn't escape my thoughts on how generally those jobs are little valued in our society (and associated with women). As he's taking the "elephanties" around town I was wondering what this book was saying. Was it making a statement about hiring care for one's children? I don't think it was, but the topic can't really be neutral in my mind, what with the gendered aspects of the work traditionally and the way that women who work (and therefore need someone else to care for their children) are often villainized in the media and at large.
