I bit outdated at this point since the stats are from before 2003 and the politicians he is going after and their policies are long gone or almost gone. Regardless, his points are clear and true. We can't compare ourselves to countries that don't have the same population or education systems as we do. His message that we need to focus on urban areas, poverty, and education for minorities also is still relevant today. And please bring back recess for all! Since it was a collection, it was a bit repetitive and used the same stats and arguments over and over. I read it because it was a discarded library book a teacher picked up, read, and recommended. Beyond that, again, it needs to be updated.

How did I not read this sooner. This should be required reading (and often is) for anyone teaching basic writing or stretch composition.
