Review # 1 was written on 2021-01-22 00:00:00 F Joseph Loos Jr I cannot state any specifics as I bought this book around 1990 when our daughters were young. But growing up with only three brothers in a household where our mom died of cancer when I was six took the birth of our first child to see a therapist to finally mourn the loss of our mother to brain cancer. This book was suggested to me and all I can add at this point is that our daughters are strong, independent women who graduated from a top university and are leaders, not followers. I know I used this book for many difficult decisions, but so much time has passed that I apologize for not being specific. Through my daughters I came to love women even more; at least ones not screaming at me :)

Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-20 00:00:00 Harry Dickson Best book on raising children that I've read (and I read a lot!) and the only one I'm putting on GoodReads. Nutshell: Natural consequences are the best. My take: Give children responsibility and ownership. Kids need to make mistakes so they realize they can handle life and are resourceful people. It's better they make mistakes when they're young and at home than away at college or living on their own. When confronted with a problem, ask your child "What *can* you do?" to encourage coming up with options. DON'T SOLVE EVERYTHING for your child. Also see "Drive" by Daniel Pink (on my list) - people are motivated by: autonomy, mastery and relatedness/connection. The same is true for children.
