Angie Daniels did a wonderful job is showing the reader that the sum of four parts (four ladies so very different) made a wonderful whole. Renee, Nadine, Kayla and Leslie had history. Renee and Leslie were biological sisters and Nadine and Kayla were childhood friends. Life and circumstances had dealt them devastating blows. They were not ready for the blow that would come while on vacation. What would be revealed while the ladies were vacationing? They would come face to face with Renee's issues with promiscuity (and how it almost cost her life) and that Kayla was holding out for a married man (as if his being a Pastor wasn't enough). Nadine would reveal that she was wrestling with her sexuality and Leslie was dealing with a reoccurrence of ovarian cancer. Each would come to realize a number of things: 1. Sisterhood is a powerful force (it is needed to thrive in life), 2. Close friends boost your immunity (who we put around us help when we are going through), 3. Sistah Circles create that space that allows us to stop, let go and breathe and 4. This circle allows for love not "because of" but "in spite of" differences. Each character supported/lifted the other without diminishing herself. Yes there were disagreements. Yes there times when it almost came to blows. That is the beauty and the ugliness of the bond. Each was able to show the other of what she was capable of being. It wasn't always pretty....but they knew that they could count on it.

Lisa invites her sister Renee and two longtime friends- Kayla and Nadine on a trip to Jamaica because she has a secret that she needs to share with the ladies. The books main character is Renee, whom is hot- to- trot , selfish, immature and seems to not understand boundaries. Unfortunately, her lack of concern for others will bring her face to face with danger on this trip. One would have thought that Lisa would be the main character since she is the reason they are on the trip , but for some reason the author did not spend enough time developing this character throughout the story. However, Lisa's health condition is a major part of the story. Kayla, is an overweight, single mother, suffering from low self-esteem, involved in an affair with the married Pastor of her church. Her pitiful character will make you want to slam the book shut many times. Nadine, is keeping a secret, of a "taboo" topic from her friends, for fear they might judge her or reject her, which forces her to pretend to be something or someone she is not. Interestingly, Nadine is the only character that shows any "growth" by the end of the book. There is actually a sequel to this book titled, "Trouble Loves Company" that is a real page turner. Fortunately, I read that book several years ago, because if I had read THIS book first I probably would have not been excited to read another book by Ms. Daniels. There is plenty of sex and drama in this book but in my opinion not much of a captivating "story". If you read it be sure to follow up with the sequel which is very good.
