(1 beginning books) concept The book not only teaches different colors but it also teaches about animals. When a questioned is asked about a certain animal. The color is place of that animal is shown on the following page. There are eight colors shown and it's the only colors that the reader is exposed to. There are three different shades of blue, but it lacks other primary/ secondary colors such as white, black, gray, etc. Although the starting out age that most suggests being one to five years old, I think the starting age should be around 5 years old. The text is simple enough for a one year old to understand but they haven't learned of the different shades of red or blue or orange. The illustrations reflect the colors that is being asked/ answered. For example if the color is red, the book would show images of a lady bug, strawberry, and red button. The book does take up the space but every other page where it asks the question "What color is…" the background image is repetitive. Author: Charlie Gardner Illustrator: none Title: Flaptastic: Colors Publisher: DK Preschool Year of Publication: 2009 ISBN: 978-0756652272 Genre: Concept Baby/ Toddler Award: none Age: 1-5 years old

I have literally read this book so many times, over the past few years, that I have lost count! I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet! This is a great book to introduce colors. Each page has a question, a color and then several objects that match the color. For example. What color is the flower? Open the flap. The word RED is in big black bold type. Then this question is repeated on each flap. What other (name of color) objects can you find? Then, around the question four objects are named. For RED, they are ladybug, strawberry, balloon, and button. The flaps are oversized and make for a fun guessing game for your little ones. I found I did have to tape up the flaps, after repeated readings, so that the book will last.
