Recommended for gr. 4-8. Part of the Headline Science series, Nature Interrupted has 6 chapters about different types of environmental chain reactions. With examples drawn from recent headlines, each chapter shows how one small change in the environment, from introducing a non-native species to the use of antibacterial soap, can lead to unexpected and sometimes catastrophic changes. Easy to understand, the book contains an index, environmental timeline, glossary, further resources, source notes and index.

Zumdahl's chemistry textbooks are among the very best introductory chem textbooks I have ever used -- as a student or a teacher. I used this one (and the previous edition) for 10 years as a high school chemistry teacher, and it is probably the best HS chemistry text out there, bar none. The language is easy to read and to understand, the examples and problems are straightforward yet challenging, and the occasional sidebar is interesting without being distracting.
