Review # 1 was written on 2017-06-07 00:00:00 William Neil I read this because I thought it would counterbalance the prostitution-condemning book by Alice Schwarzer, which I--before reading it--considered to be potentially one-sided and having such a strong agenda as to need that balance. Schwarzer's book however already is very broadminded, multi-voiced and balanced, and absolutely not the feminist super-agenda I thought it would be. In fact it made sense and introduced a lot of new and relevant facts to the discussion for me. So... Sanders definitely goes into her research project wanting to prove an already preconceived (by her) pro-prostitution result, which is far more concerted and finite than Schwarzer set out with. She is so pro-prostitution in her findings, has so little to say about the consequences (for everyone involved), that I ended up wondering whether she owns a brothel or owns shares in one. Or, for that matter, what the ethical compass is in a woman who finds nothing wrong in the capitalisation of human beings and their bodies with no or little agency. It appears her main incentive for this is the wish to stop crime and violence enacted on prostitutes. Curious logic. Not recommended.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-28 00:00:00 Tiffany Horne A captivating, yet harrowing read. The true ongoings in the life of the prostitute. The fears, anxieties, concerns etc regarding doing the right thing. The fear of living a so-called ""normal"" life. I liked the sense of humour the main character of the book portrayed, which is probably what helped her survive I imagine.
