Have you ever opened up an old family photo album and giggled over the outrageous outfits from your grandparents? Have you gone back to your graduation photos and groaned at your hair cut? Have you ever watched a home video and wondered, "Where did I get the idea to wear that?" Well, then this is the book for you! Covering from the 1950's to the 1990's (but primarily focusing on the 60's and 70's), all those styles you thought (or prayed) you'd never see again are here in full color images taken directly from magazines of the era. Drainpipe pants from the 50's, jumpsuits, kaftans, tie dye from the 60's, white suits from the 70's, big everything, ski pants from the 80's, and more are locked within these pages. But that is not all. Catherine Horwood explains (on the most part) why these clothes are fashion no-nos and celebrities who made them (in)famous. Written from a British perspective (to note for American audiences), this is a joy to thumb through. Expect to spend a few hours pouring over the monstrosities in the book (and laughing over the hideousness of the clothes). The biggest problem (and the reason I withhold a star) is that there is not enough explanation on why each item is a fashion faux pas. Sometimes, Horwood even changes the subject completely when writing about an item. Keeping these caveats in mind, this is a fine book and will certainly be fashionable for your coffee table or book shelf.
