Review # 1 was written on 2018-02-16 00:00:00 Kendra Gray Veľmi zaujímavá antropologická esej o čase a jeho nedostatku; v poslednej kapitole sú sformulované konkrétne návrhy. Vtipné a prístupné aj bežnému čitateľovi (bez slovníka cudzích slov). Za termín "akademické plačky" udeľujem autorovi (alebo prekladateľkám?) veľkú pochvalu. Ak podľa Allenovej metódy GTD je najvyššia perspektíva nahliadania na osobný život 50 000 stôp (cca 15 km), tak Eriksen ponúka perspektívu celej spoločnosti z družice na strednej orbite (2 000 až 35 000 km). Vďaka tejto knihe mi vyletela Momo v čítacom poradovníku skoro na vrchol. Zaujímavá dojmológia: WuWejův zápisník Obľúbený citát: Některým z nás by prospělo, kdyby si několikrát za den řekli, že lidi dělají ledacos podivného a o většině věcí ani vědět nemusím, i kdyby byly zajímavé. Prvá (štvor)veta: [Předmluva] Tato kniha vznikla na základě nepříjemného pocitu, který ve mně v uplynulých letech postupně narůstal. Zdálo se, že se mi tento neurčitý neklid snaží naznačit, že něco není v pořádku. Poslední desetiletí přinesla mnoho různých technologií šetřících čas - od moderních diářů a elektronické pošty přes hlasové schránky a mobilní telefony až po textové editory. Přesto má většina z nás pocit, že času je mnohem méně než dřív. Posledná (päť)veta: [8. kapitola: A teď pomalu!] Když se zeptáte, na čem lidem doopravdy záleží, odpovídají nejčastěji: Nejdůležitější pro mě je „soužití s přáteli", „rodina", „dělat něco pro ostatní", „zážitky v přírodě", nebo abstraktněji „poznání", „pochopení". Tyto výroky je třeba brát vážně, jsou jistě myšleny upřímně. Snad podala tato knížka určitý nástin odpovědí týkajících se naší další cesty. Review # 2 was written on 2012-09-16 00:00:00 Mark Caine A book everyone who lives in the "information age" should read. Eriksen presents the complications brought on by the technical innovations of the late twentieth century (and onwards), in a time when most people are concerned about how we can further proceed with our innovations. In order to describe our present(which he refers to as the "information age"), Eriksen describes the past, thus providing a good overview on what shaped the twentieth century, and why technology developed as it did. Even though this book was written in 2001, it's still highly applicable to our present. If anything, the book might even appeal to more people today than it did back in 2001, regarding the huge rise of cellular use, laptops and technological devices in general. Interesting are also Eriksen's predictions on the comming decades, where one can say his succession rate is on about 50%(more or less). Some of his predictions can be described as rather unfortunate though, but they are nowhere near undermining the central points of the book. More than anything, they give you a good laugh. It would be interesting to read a renovated version with added chapters on for instance social media and the rise of technology in schools, which would make this book even more relevant in our current day and age. Knowing Eriksen though, he probably has too many emails to send making it difficult to find the time to write a whole new chapter, not to mention re-publishing an entire book.
