In another life, I made the decision to sell a business and return to graduate school. I had the blessings of my wife and young children. I did a lot of thinking and reading in Urban Affairs. This is one of many books that I read over a two-year period. It is a collection of essays written by a wide-range of experts in urban affairs, planning, sociology, political science, education, health systems, infrastructure, urban design and architecture and cultural affairs. It covers the gamet of topics that all converge in a city, perhaps why I find them so exciting and mesmerizing, and love them, the grittier the better. I ultimately applied to the graduate program in city planning at The University of Pennsylvania and The University of Maryland. I was accepted into both programs, matriculated at Penn and graduated in 2000. I am not sure it was the best decision, but I still love the topic and do wish it had worked out better. But I am very happy where I am now, and perhaps if it had worked out, I would probably not be where I am! Life is indeed strange.

After 3 years with liberal history professors (hard to believe at BYU, I know), this was the first conservative viewpoint I was assigned to read. I really like it! I was definitely more "moderate-left" at the time of reading this book, and since then would consider myself moderate to conservative. (It wasn't just the book, but the book got me thinking...)
