Rarely does a book go so far south as quickly as this one. Starting off, I LOVED this story. I could not have enjoyed the beginning of this book more. About the time the dirtbag - I mean "hero" - put a mask on a cat and refused to take it off, it went south. By the time he was locking his wife in her room like her abusive first husband did, I was DONE. He is, and I mean this, a pretty despicable character. Romance heroes are often tortured and arrogant and blah blah blah. That's fine. But this one made an agreement for a marriage of convenience. His wife makes a WRITTEN LIST of her terms that he agrees to without reading them. And then, when he finds out he doesn't like one of them, he decides he will force her to break them because she "tricked him." Tricked him? If he hadn't been a tool and if he'd actually read the list, he would have known the term existed. It's not like she wrote it in code. So he runs roughshod over her because he wants to have sex with her RIGHT NOW (though he says he's "nothing if not patient") and he's cool with it because, hey, she tricked me by making me not read something she totally handed me and gave me time to read Tool. Also, the writing for the niece was mind boggling. I get her emotional state. But she's 16, she was raised by a father who is called unreasonable and unbearable in term of propriety. But at times in the book, she responded to rules about society and polite behavior like she'd never heard then before. He was overbearing but he never told her she has to be polite to guests? Come on. Oh, and there's either an actual or near rape that just seems to be kind of forgotten and gotten over in less than a chapter. Fair warning. I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. It started off SO WELL and went into the toilet SO FAST. Do yourself a favor. Skip this one.

Vocabulary lists mainly, with some very interesting blurbs about the languages. Very good for deepening understanding of current terminology
