Review # 1 was written on 2011-09-29 00:00:00 Daniel Jaconetti What I loved right off the bat about this book is the simplicity of the recipes! They do not meander on over pages and pages of how to's and must do's...some confine themselves to just half a page! Really! And that includes the ingredients and a one line introduction to each one! Alas, one downside: there is not a picture of every recipe, which I really do prefer in a cookbook (and is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5~is that wrong??), however there are some lovely photos in the middle of the book of some of the concoctions, so it's an acceptable compromise. There is a 'Helpful Hints' section at the beginning of the book, but again, it manages to confine itself to just a couple of pages of hints that really are helpful! Also, the recipes are largely comprised of ingredients that I already have. All I can say to this author is "Yay, you!". This book has great recipes for cookies, pies, cakes, puddings, quick breads, and more...there is even a Plain ol' fudge" recipe. One other thing: there is NOT a cupcake recipe! Not a one! What's up with that?? I mean, there are cupcakes pictured on the cover, for goodness sakes! |
