Review # 1 was written on 2008-02-13 00:00:00 Greg Bedaker I was one of the many Americans who could not believe the outcome of the 2004 presidential election and needed a great deal of explanation why anybody would have voted for George W. Bush. At the time it seemed like people were grasping at straws to account for this: it was the "values voters", Ohio was rigged, etc. This book takes a clear-eyed and unbiased look at the election, including a fascinating and well-told history of the Democratic nominating contest, the 2000 election, and the Bush presidency to that point. The authors (writing in 2005, obviously pre-Katrina, pre-Terri Schaivo, pre-Scooter Libby, etc.) predicted a fundamental shift toward conservatism and the right which has not taken shape, but since the reality of post-9/11 (or post 2000) politics has proved more volatile than previous periods, they may be forgiven for their inaccurate predictions. Overall this is a great read for those interested in the big picture of what happened in America in that fateful year - 2004.

Review # 2 was written on 2020-10-28 00:00:00 Michael Olszowka Let me preface by saying I had no problem with Obama. That said, I firmly believe everyone has a right to their own opinion. But this author has such hatred for Obama that it is embarrasing. This book is written with such flippant off the cuff rhetoric that she makes this book seem like a fairy tale....make believe...phony. Whether its true or not is irrelevant since she is so caustic in her presentation. I listened to this book via an audio book. The author also is the narrator. She comes across as condescending as a born again christian, as bitter as a week old lemon, and as sarcastic as the drunk uncle you don't want at your Thanksgiving dinner table. What I found most offensive is the dialogue she slips into while reading. Supposedly she is reading pages of diaries from Michelle, Barack, Biden, and Marian Robinson (michele's mother)....so she has not idea what their voices would sound like....but she proceeds to slip into a stereotype vernacular. Very insulting. Anyway, I do NOT recommend this book for anyone wanting a serious read concerning the Obama administration, or the family. This book just came across as a excuse for the author to vent her hatred. Oh, and I tried my hardest to follow through and finish the book, but I just couldn't. I made it through to the third CD of the audio (11 cd's total) and I had to give up.
