This is ostensibly an alphabetical listing of "tips" about cooking. That itself leads to a couple questions: (a) Would it not have been better to group the tips into logical categories? (b)Some tips really don't add all that much to a cook's knowledge (e.g., using cooking oil spray). Still and all, this is a helpful little book. The basic theme is laid out in the Introduction (Pages ix-x): "Cooks with innate talent exist. But most cooks are made, not born. . ."Tips Cooks Love" collects hundreds of our favorite culinary tips, techniques, and tools to make cooking easier and more efficient." The goal? (Page xi) ". . .to share the 'aha!' moments we have had in the kitchen. . . ." Some items picked at random, to illustrate the contents of this work. Aluminum foil: Doesn't make any difference which side (shiny or not) you use. Asparagus: Peel it or not? Nah, not worth the effort. Cast-iron cookware: How to season the cookware; how to cook with it; how to clean. Grilling, tips for: Lots of useful tips. I learned many of these by trial and error. I wish I had had some of these in front of me and not made the mistakes that I made while learning! Peaches: I've never peeled a peach and don't intend to. But if you need that trick, here are some hints as to how to do that best. Sautéing, top hints: Use oil and not butter is one of the hints. Again, nice to have several hints listed together. In the end, I rate this as pretty helpful, even though there are some items that won't add much to the cook's repertoire. There are lots of handy dandy tips that can help one out.

It's not enough to love to cook - you kinda have to be good at it too. This book is easy to read and full of tips to make cooking a pleasure. Many I knew, but others I didn't. Can't wait to cook dinner tonight.
