Review # 1 was written on 2020-01-22 00:00:00 Bonnie Simon This book used "gang" to refer to a group of friends and I think that's sort of confusing. I reread those parts of the book multiple times to figure out what was trying to be said. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-02-28 00:00:00 Ira Belfer This book is a must in an upper elementary classroom, since it talks about a very common yet disturbing issue: Racism. It is one of a great resource of the teachers. While reading, teachers can explain what is racism? How do we become one by identifying its characteristics? It touched my heart, because I can relate to the Pakistani girl who was being laughed at because of her clothing. I loved the way how the book teaches children to stand up for themselves or seek help. It has very colorful pictures of children dwelling in the classrooms and other places where racism is most vulnerable. This book can be helpful in creating a community in the classroom. |
