History of machines and mechanism This book can only help you if you are interested in engineering specifically mechanical engineering. If you are the type of person who likes mathematics, science, problem solving, arts, history, organization, and building, then this book can give you an insight of your path. It’s a good starter for people who want to study mechanical engineering, but you will need to know your roots in order to proceed. Reading it will give you a taste of what to come ahead. I personally like the book because mechanical engineering is my field of study. People who do not like any of the things above should probably try another career. There are many movies that engineers relate to but I think movies like Transformers, Ironman or Apollo 13 are good movies that future engineers should definitely see. In Transformers the autobots and the decepticons are robots that transform into vehicles. In their transformation you can see metal car parts moving. In the film Ironman, Tony Stark (main character) makes his own suit of armor. He makes a robot just like the one from transformers but instead being along with them, he is controlling the armored suit. The movie Apollo is a real event. NASA sends astronauts to space and they show us of how engineering is important to the way of life. In the book it starts of from the past, comes to the present, and tells us of how it will affect the future. Past examples from the book like caveman using engineering to start a fire easier than before. Today in the modern world the book tells how some objects that we use every day, like the automobile, power tools, bicycles, skateboards, and much more, were engineered so that life would be easier. For the future it mentions “mechatronics” which is the combination of mechanical and electrical components. A great example is the automobile. Vehicles use mechanical and electronic parts to function properly. I don’t know about you, but I think the “hovering car” is making an approach on human society. How do I know? Look up Lexus hoverboard.

A wise, provocative book. Some quotes: "Health is organic innocence. It must be lost, like all innocence, so that knowledge may be possible." "The laws of physics and chemistry do not vary according to health or disease. But to fail to admit from a biological point of view, life differentiates between its states means condemning oneself to be even unable to distinguish food from excrement. Certainly a living being's excrement can be food for another living being but not for him. What distinguishes food from excrement is not a physicochemical reality but a biological value. Likewise, what distinguishes the physiological from the pathological is not a physicochemical objective reality but a biological value." "No one innocently knows that he is innocent since being aware of adequation to the rule means being aware of the reasons for the rule which amounts to the need for the rule. It is appropriate to contrast to the overly exploited Socratic maxim no knowing man is evil, the opposite maxim that no one is good who is aware of being so. Similarly no one is healthy who is aware of being so... But it is in the rage of guilt as in the clamor of suffering that innocence and health arise as the terms of a regression as impossible as it is sought after." Comment would be superfluous.
