Review # 1 was written on 2021-06-27 00:00:00 Brent Lindsey This is an amazing book for children! I asked for it as my gift after re-subscribing to KUSC, a classical music station I've listened to most of my life. I really didn't think I would share it with my 2 year old grandson until he was 3 or maybe even 4. But he asked me to read it to him and it's been his favorite book now for weeks! He has learned so much about music, mainly from reading this book! He can identify instruments from their sound and their image, he talks about Bach and Mozart and often asks to listen to more of their music! The accompanying CD with samples of music that coordinate with the reading is very worthwhile too. This is must read for young children!!!

Review # 2 was written on 2016-01-11 00:00:00 Ej Fesler I love this book's simple and fun way of teaching children about classical music. Its only problem is that it continues to perpetuate the idea that only men can compose music or conduct an orchestra. As my 8-year old said on the Orchestra page: "where are the girls?" So, I'll be teaching my girls about famous women in music (from Hildegard of Bengen, to Fanny Mendelssohn, to Clara Schumann, and many more.) We need to start celebrating these women who surmounted all the odds and achieved relative fame doing something that was considered the domain of men alone, in their time and still today.
