Review # 1 was written on 2017-04-09 00:00:00 Michael Holman This is the kind of ghost story book I love - heavy on the historical context, lots of local discussion, and the ghost stories serving to provide additional cultural insight in a more personal vein. I really enjoyed this book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-06-17 00:00:00 Jeffrey Kiper Jr I really wanted to give this book a higher rating, but I couldn't. Not the fault of Ms. McCarty, but the book fell apart before I got halfway through. That is the fault of the printer/binder. Also, there were some editing errors. Very few grammatical errors (I am not a wordsmith) but a few stuck out. What really stuck out was a person's description in a story that was quite outdated, the misspelling of a prominent Peorian and the inconsistency of following through with keeping a particular name or a place the same; i.e. Parkway Inn, Parkway Tavern or Parkside Tavern. There were a couple others, but I didn't note them. Just a poor editing job all around. I hope in the next printing the errors are found and corrected. I like the idea of reading the history about some of the sites, buildings and the familiar people. The ghost stories or hauntings needed to be a little more colorful; however. They were pretty limited in their descriptions. |
