Review # 1 was written on 2013-01-29 00:00:00 Anguts Sadalak This is a great introduction to the battle that changed naval warfare, ending the age of the dominance of wooden ships. In a mere, yet profusely illustrated 127 pages, Quarstein gets most of the major general information, politcal as well as military, leading up to, including, and the aftermath of the battle. Due to the many period photos, woodblock prints, diagrams, maps, etc., this book will serve as a nice reference to keep handy when reading books which take an even more in depth view. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-03-10 00:00:00 Michael Bagley Pretty good description of the battle and subsequent lives of the Merrimack and Monitor Ironclads. Both ships were the first of their kind (for their respective sides) and fought each other to a draw in their only battle. This book is pretty engagingly told, and has a wealth of photos, paintings and illustrations pertaining to the ships and the people that crewed them, as well as some interesting maps. |
