This book gave me a much great appreciation for the history of the Japantown neighborhood, which is the oldest Japanese neighborhood in the U.S.. I read it as part of research for this neighborhood guide, Japantown Neighborhood Vibe Guide.. The diversity of Japanese culture that grew in San Francisco is amazing, especially religiously and economically. The oppression against the Japanese community is also sobering. The photos in this book make the story even more compelling.

This an excellent companion book for anyone touring or interested in Fort Lewis's post museum. It is a fun and fascinating read, complete with captioned photos, that leaves the reader with wanting to know more. Great for the military enthusiast or buff.
