Replete with rare and glorious photographs of the obscure and the luminaries of the music, the book tackles the broad-shouldered influence through excellent old photographs that made me pine for a time when places like the Royal Gardens, Lincoln Gardens, and Kelly's Stables were cauldrons of hot jazz, being incubated in the burgeoning, bustling environs of early 20th-century Chicago.
