A nice look at the history of the Lincoln Highway as it wandered around the south and west sides of Chicagoland. The book is organized chronologically and covers the history of the road from its conception to its modern designation as a scenic byway. While the text and photos tell an interesting story, I wish the former had been fleshed out a little more and the latter had been a little clearer. Neither are major flaws that would cause me to refrain from recommending the book. However, they do detract slightly from an interesting story. I'd recommend this book for those interested in the history of one of the nation's most significant roads, especially those interested in the local impact of that road in the Chicagoland communities it traveled through. This is one of those books that I wish I could have half star ratings for. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. It's above average but only just.

Much more about the road itself and less about the roadside architecture and attractions (my main interest) but a well-researched look at this part of transportation history.
