Review # 1 was written on 2015-01-19 00:00:00 Yolanda James The book follows a sea otter from infancy to motherhood. The text is quite good, but the illustrations are... not my cup of tea. I would give more of a pass, but this is natural history targeted at pre-schoolers/early elementary and lack of realism in the illustrations is an issue. I doubt if, using these pictures as a guide, a child would be able to identify an actual sea otter. DD#1: "Do baby sea otters have tails?" Me: "Yes, I'm pretty sure they do." DD#1: "Why does this one not have a tail?" Me: "It's on the other side sotto voce because the artist isn't good at drawing them." DD#1 (age 4) - 3/5 Me - 2/5 |
