This book explores the opposing viewpoints concerning the ethics of human cloning. It features arguments for and against from multiple viewpoints and concerning multiple facets of the cloning process and options. After reading the viewpoints, I cannot say I have a firm stance in either direction. I saw merit in several of the positions, even opposing ones. As an atheist, I can look past any religious prohibitions for my own opinion, but I do recognize that religion plays a huge role in the lives of billions of people around the world so their viewpoints should be respected and considered. On the same note though, the religious sector should also respect those that disagree with them in return. What I believe is that the basis of your support or protest towards cloning is likely going to depend on what you consider to be a life. At what point in the development of an embryo do you believe it starts deserving human rights? The reason this is critical, is because some of the variations of cloning literally create embryos with the full intention of not letting it develop past the point when its cells are harvested. Also, even embryos meant to become full grown humans have a terribly low survival rate. (As of the publishing in 2005.) The book definitely makes me want to get caught up on the current state of the science and the legal standing of governments around the world in the realm of cloning. I think this book would appeal to fans of science, family values, reproduction, fertility and even science fiction.

I thought this book was intelligent, well-argued, and thought-provoking. I'm not entirely convinced that all of the author's conclusions are correct, but the subject matter of the book is of the highest importance.
