There are sentences and paragraphs that strike as deeply as any lyrical passage from a good poet. And the harder sections are very helpful in doing the work of examining love and friendship--how they work, what is happening... Toner is not afraid that love's splendor or friendship's sweetness will fade under rigorous scrutiny like the morning fog under the sun. He expects love and friendship to remain, more clearly lasting and firm for their being examined and brought more clearly into the light.

Review # 2 was written on 2016-10-21 00:00:00 Mackenzie Perry Deeply thought out description of the ideal of love. Meaningful because you will be left connecting his analysis to your personal experience. This is a dense book and well worth the effort.
