What more could you want from a collection of Edward Lear poems than that it contain "The Owl and the Pussycat" and "The Pelican Chorus"? Those are both in the title, so you know ahead of time this one will deliver. There's also a nice assortment of limericks. Here's my twelve year old's favorite, still remembered from preschool days when I used to read it frequently from another book: There was an old man with a beard, Who said, "It is just as I feared! Two Owls and a Hen, four Larks and a Wren, Have all built their nests in my beard!" There are suitably fanciful illustrations as well.

This book, you can tell right away is a poetry book. It is an entire book full of separate poems. They all are about pelicans or animals that kind of relate to the other poems. There isn't much rhyming but at the end of the book there is a song that if you can read notes you could play on your instrument or just learn to sing. Its a cute book but i didn't really feel like i would want to read this again and i didn't feel like it would have any benefits to kids in my classroom. This book would be good for ages like 1-3. some of the vocabulary could be difficult for students to read and understand on their own but reading aloud would be good for this book. It would be helpful having the teacher read this book aloud so they can explain any words or phrases that can be confusing for the students. I think this book could be used in the classroom just during like center time, I'm not sure how i could really incorporate this book into a lesson.
