This is a fairly technical analysis in movement observation. It's a great resource, although dated. I found the mid-section of the book a tedious survey of case studies. The beginning and end of the book are useful as references for one delving into movement studies. A better, more contemporary, book is Beyond Words: Movement Observation and Analysis by Carol-Lynne Moore. Nonetheless, I did find this book useful for its focus on children. Good practice for correlating and understanding the potential physical and psychological components of movement.

If I were to make a coaching 101 course this would be one of the required texts. This book not only details how motor learning works but also how to optimize teaching. Any coach, teacher or athlete will see great benefits from this book. I bought the version with a web study guide which had reviews/quizzes at the end of each chapter. Those really helped cement the learning process for me. I will likely reference back to this very often through my coaching career and have already recommended it to several other coaches.
