Review # 2 was written on 2015-10-23 00:00:00 Bryan Williams Could the author be more biased? I very much wish my school had not chosen such a text. Every chapter I've read has some line or lines that make me want to pack it up and call it a night. It's quite unfortunate I'm forced into reading this. Had I chosen this on my own volition I'd have given up by now. The book caters to the victim mentality, offering little in the way of self responsibility, personal accountability and subsequent consequences. The cultural chapter dedicated entire paragraphs to every race except whites, who, by the way, have quite a high rate of suicide. Nevermind how mental illness is viewed in that dominant culture. Firearms are a risk factor for suicide, yet access to ropes, pills, and razors aren't? No, risk factors include mental illness, family history, older white males, loss. Guns are the tools that people with these risk factors use to complete suicide. Even if all of this didn't spoil the reading for me, the lack of efficient editing would. I just hope my IQ hasn't dropped and that I haven't been fully indoctrinated by the time this class ends.
