Didn't read exactly this edition. Dr. Smallwood is my vet school Comparative Anatomy teacher and we used a recent copy of A Guided Tour of Veterinary Anatomy from 2010 as our class textbook that isn't precisely this book, but close enough for the rating. Dr. Smallwood lectures exactly like he writes so the book is full of random tidbits and what the class has affectionately dubbed 'Smallwood fun facts' that are entertaining and interesting until you're trying to study for an exam and then they kind of get in the way until the pre-test hysterics set in and it's the only thing keeping you sane. I may never remember what all the parts of the venous drainage of the bovine udder are, but I will sure as hell never forget the paragraph on what we all referred to as 'penis farts' or the pizzle eye of abattoir jargon. It is both a detriment and a blessing to the book. The organization could do with some improvement. There isn't a great deal of rhyme or reason to the groupings of structures, which can be confusing when connecting the dots. Particularly if you are someone like me who needs to see related things in groups to properly digest them. Smallwood's illustrations are accurate and a riot in and of themselves. The smegma drawing is priceless.

Hemingway's Paris, by Robert Gajdusek, is a photo book of the various spaces and places once frequented and favored by Ernest Hemingway (he lived in Paris for 7 years). I would have preferred more color photos (the majority are black and white), but I also found myself pleasantly delighted throughout the experience. This is not a true-read book, but the photos are bordered by healthy excerpts of text from Hemingway by-lines, Hemingway books (largely A Moveable Feast, of course), and books about Paris and Hemingway. If you like any of those things, this book will please.
