Review # 1 was written on 2014-07-11 00:00:00 David O'donoghue This book is a historical regimental account of the infamous 13th Pennsylvania Reserves corps, 42nd infantry. Or adequately known as the Bucktails for being rugged men from the northern mountains /forrest of Pennsylvania that enlisted as volunteers at the outbreak of the civil war. It follows the regiment through famous battles such as Gettysburg, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Bull run, etc. The Bucktails were known for being fierce warriors from the forrest, were admired for by their Northern comrades & hated by their Southern brothers in arms. In order to join the regiment, an enlistee had to shoot a buck w/ his rifle & bring his tail as a sign of his marksmanship, & wore the bucktail on their hat as a memento, badge of courage and honor. |
