There's an enjoyable enough read, though I think it's from before Martin had perfectly hit her stride with the Deb Ralston mysteries. It's certainly useful for filling in family background. Content warning: bad things happening to pregnant women and babies

I like Deb Ralston police novels. They are good stories. Deb Ralston is 42 a Fort Worth Detective mother of three adoptive children. Only two of them still home. she is out jogging with her dog when he starts barking and running off. Deb recognizes the smell and runs to the nearest pay phones. (Before everyone had cell phones.) It was her day off but because she was first detective on the scene she gets the case. The story is very believable about police procedures of the time it was written. The setting is Fort Worth, Texas area It was written in 1986
