Review # 1 was written on 2019-02-06 00:00:00 Johann Serafica It was the Pepsi Generation and The World Book Encyclopedia was not your grandad's old Britannica sassafras soda. The World Book was tricked up with glossy paper that was like velvet to the touch (unlike that dry paper ol' unglossy Britannica), lots of dynamic snazzy photography and new American English writing. It was my favorite of all our encyclopedia sets. Hell, I read the thing for fun, and might be doing so now if it weren't for this darned internet. kr/eg '19 |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-07-26 00:00:00 Rodney Linsangan I haven't read the World Book encyclopedias cover to cover, but I have read many, many articles from as soon as I learned to read until the grown-ups gave my set away. I made mazes with my encyclopedias for the mouse that lived under my bed. I poured over the photos of famous paintings and everything else of interest. Encyclopedias have been neglected in this new age of the internet, but they are precious. It is a lot easier to read about a topic if you can just flip to it rather than having to type it into a search bar. |
