A very good book on the impact of farming on wildlife, but also one that refreshingly refrains from much judgement or emotion. The facts are laid down and where uncertainty exists it is stated. Conditions have changed over the last thirty years, as well as our understanding of the effects of farming on the natural world, and an update would be welcome, but this is still a worthy book and a useful insight for those interested in wildlife around farmland. Indeed, bovine TB and the link to Badgers is mentioned in some depth. As with many other New Naturalist books it is not a casual read though, these books are dispassionate and scientific in approach, far from the wordy prose of nature writers like Robert Macfarlane or Richard Mabey!

What a fascinating life and man. This is a wonderful introduction level to the whole of Wordsworth's life. Nice and easy to read with good accompanying pictures. It definitely inspires me to go and read more in-depth work.
