Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-15 00:00:00 Heather Martz This book is less purely an architectural history, unlike his PALLADIAN STYLE, and written far more for the restorer of the Georgian home. In fact, he spends a short chapter on the revivals of Adam Style and devotes some time in each of the more historical chapters on modern restoration, including issues of provenance for various Georgian antiques. No, Georgian isn't synonymous with Adam Style, for Robert Adam's active influence only covered thirty years of the 18th century, but it's hard not to make the equation because of the timeless elegance of Adam--and the people he worked with like Chippendale. |
