Review # 1 was written on 2016-01-10 00:00:00 Jerry Davis Except for an introductory course and a survey of the two books of Samuel, I avoided studying the Hebrew Scriptures in seminary. I'd covered the material in college, yes, but beyond that it seemed daunting. I still don't know the Hebrew alphabet and the remote antiquity of the canon, as opposed to the accessible modernity and familiar Greek of the Christian Scriptures, made it seem just too difficult to master. So I went for the modern stuff: apocalyptic Jewish texts and Christian literature. Noth was a standard text in seminary, something I picked up from an older student right away. Now, years later, I finally got around to reading it.

Review # 2 was written on 2020-01-19 00:00:00 Kenneth Poirot This illustrated collection of pieces about the aborted invasion of England by the Spanish Armada was a pleasant introduction to the topic. The excerpts from original documents are nested within a text sufficient to describe the context.
