Review # 1 was written on 2018-10-19 00:00:00 Dean Lakovic The content was rather dry and shied away from the more interesting sociopolitical intrigues of the period that would have better situated the macro-level foreign policy discussions. At times, the author brushed aside claims that interwar France was a racist, anti-Semitic and highly polarized society on the edge of social collapse and instead focused on more technocratic arguments. One welcome analysis was the assertion that France always wavered between reconciliation and punishment regarding interwar Germany; the vicissitudes of French policy reflected the times and not rigid ideological or political biases. |
